The solution was chosen for performance, life time and fast installation. Lisboa is famous for its traditional and picturesque trams in the old parts of the city running up and down steep and narrow streets to the neighbourhoods of Alfama and Bairro Alto, some of them pulled by cables in the street. But 700.000 people live on the southern bank of Tejo across from Lisboa proper. This is the population which Metro Sul do Tejo will service. The metro runs all the way in open air in the existing streets. The lines look like a “T” running east-west (Cacilhas-Universidade) and north-south (Pragal-Corroios).
